Response to Launch Youth Wellbeing Hub in Thatcham to Tackle Growing Mental
Health Needs.
Thatcham, West Berkshire – Response, a leading mental health charity working across
the Thames Valley, is excited to announce the official opening of its new Wellbeing
Hub for children and young people in Thatcham. The launch will take place on Friday,
3rd October 2025, at the newly refurbished, fully accessible Carramar site, a
milestone for the organisation and a significant boost for local families.
The Thatcham Wellbeing Hub will offer a safe, inclusive and compassionate space for
young people aged 11 and above and their families. With a focus on youth-led, nonclinical mental health support, the Hub aims to provide a much-needed early
intervention service that helps reduce NHS waiting times, relieve pressure on
schools and community services, and create lasting positive change.
The Hub is already making a difference. In just six weeks since soft-launching its
services, Response has supported 23 local children and young people, meeting a
clear and growing demand for early mental health support in the area.
Jamie Douglas, Associate Director of Children, Young People and Families at
Response, said:
“We’ve seen first-hand how vital this Hub is to the young people and families in
Thatcham. This is more than just a service, it’s a lifeline. We’re proud of what we’ve
achieved with one dedicated keyworker so far, but we know the demand is growing and
schools are asking for more support. With additional funding and community backing,
we can extend our reach and ensure no young person feels alone in their mental health
journey.”
The Opening Day on 3rd October will include:
• Conversations with staff, families, and young people already using the Hub.
• Insight into the Hub’s youth-led approach.
• An appeal for local funding and volunteer support.
• Meet the Response team.
• Media opportunities and interview availability.
• Chance to meet influential Thatcham Residents.
The Hub offers a variety of services, including after-school drop-ins, one-to-one
support, and family sessions. All activities are designed to empower young people,
create community connections, and reduce stigma around mental health.
