Liberal Democrat MPs who represent tens of thousands of people across Berkshire were seen waving Great British flags in a viral photo.
Liberal Democrat MPs from Berkshire were spotted waving Great British flags in a viral photo during their autumn conference at the Bournemouth International Centre.
The image features Joshua Reynolds, the MP for Maidenhead, and Clive Jones, the MP for Wokingham, alongside other delegates. A post accompanying the photo declares, “Our flag does not belong to one creed or to one race. It belongs to one people, the British people. We will not let our flag be used to intimidate.” This post has garnered over 443,000 views on X/Twitter and significant engagement on Facebook.
Mr Jones expressed pride in flying the flag, stating, “Our flag should be a sign of celebration and pride,” recalling how his home was adorned with Union Jacks during the late Queen’s platinum jubilee. Mr Reynolds added, “I was glad to stand beside my Lib Dem colleagues in celebrating all that our flag truly stands for: unity, heritage and strength.”
He also remarked on the Union flag's significance, noting it represents England, Scotland, and Ireland through the flags of their patron saints.
During the conference, Mr Jones highlighted local businesses in Wokingham, emphasising the importance of the hospitality sector in the economy. He shared his positive experiences visiting local cafes, including those that support neurodivergent youngsters, while also addressing challenges posed by the Labour government’s increased national insurance contributions.
Additionally, Mr Reynolds spoke critically of Elon Musk in an interview with Times Radio, discussing the negative impact of some content on social media but reaffirming his commitment to free speech, saying, “I won’t cede a platform.”
