Two houses that developers have wanted to demolish for years are now finally set to be replaced with new homes for families in Sandhurst.
Developers are set to replace two long-derelict houses in Sandhurst with new homes for families. Plans to demolish Athol Villa and Woodside bungalow on Westbourne Road have been in the works since 2021.
Originally, a proposal for nine homes was turned down by Bracknell Forest Council in March 2022, and an appeal was rejected in 2023. A revised nine-home plan was later withdrawn, but now a trimmed-down project for four semi-detached homes has been approved.
During the council planning meeting, members raised concerns about the closeness of the new homes to existing properties, especially regarding parking design. Councillor Tony Virgo expressed his reservations, stating, "It does seem a bit cramped... I just can’t support this."
Conversely, Councillor Patrick Smith highlighted the need to assess the application based on existing policies, noting that it appears to comply with regulations. Meanwhile, Councillor Sheila Collings welcomed the new development, citing the existing homes as an eyesore and the new plans as a chance for modern, energy-efficient houses.
The plan received approval on September 11, and you can find more details by searching reference 24/00740/FUL on the council’s planning portal.
