Transforming Wargrave's Greyhound into Wine Bar

Progress is being made to transform a closed pub in a pretty village in Berkshire into a wine bar, B&B and shop.

Exciting changes are underway at The Greyhound pub in Wargrave, which has been closed since December 2021. The transformation into a wine bar, B&B, and shop is spearheaded by Sarah and Nick Hart from H’Artisan, a popular local cafe.

Since starting work in January last year, the project has received the green light from Wokingham Borough Council to change the layout of the building. This includes expanding the kitchen and reconfiguring the bar area, following a statutory consultation.

The new venue will feature four en suite double bedrooms for guests, plus a two-storey office space. Planning agents argue that the project will enhance the local area, offering improved retail options and boosting tourism.

Construction is in full swing after planning permissions were granted in July 2023, including necessary adjustments like lowering a chimney for safety and replacing windows with energy-efficient options. The Greyhound is set to open until 1am, providing a vibrant new space for locals and visitors alike.
