Trump's Windsor Visit Sparks Protests and Praise

The visit of the President of the USA Donald Trump, was met with protests in Windsor, Berkshire, last week.

Last week, President Donald Trump's visit to Windsor, Berkshire sparked protests throughout the area. The President attended a state banquet at Windsor Castle, which he described as an "exquisite honour" thanks to an invitation from King Charles III.

The banquet featured a star-studded guest list, including tech leaders like Apple CEO Tim Cook and Blackstone's Stephen Schwarzman, who dined alongside Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. Following the visit, the BBC reported that these tech companies plan to invest £150 billion in the UK.

Flags for the UK and the USA adorned Thames Street, remaining up over the weekend as the visit drew mixed reactions. Supporters waved flags, including the Union and Israeli flags, while opponents from the East Berkshire Palestine Solidarity Campaign and the Revolutionary Communist Party rallied against him.

Adam Gillman, 19, from the Socialist Students movement, played a key role in organising a ‘Youth Walk Out Against Trump’. In an interview, he emphasised the importance of young people uniting in solidarity with global movements. He stated, “We’d like to see a government that fought for the interests of young people…” advocating for better public services and an end to tuition fees.

Gillman, who previously ran for office in Reading Central, came in seventh with 221 votes. Meanwhile, local Liberal Democrats raised concerns about the effects of Trump's visit on public safety, urging the government to use the opportunity to push for peace in Gaza and Ukraine. They also called for transparency regarding the policing costs associated with the visit.
