A plan to build 80 flats on the Tesco Extra car park in West Reading has been withdrawn, council records show (PL/23/1041).
The application from Ridgepoint Homes for the Portman Road site — which would have created 74 two‑bed and six one‑bed flats and removed parking spaces — was withdrawn on 18 March. No new documents have been submitted since December 2023, despite the site being allocated for development in the Local Plan Partial‑Update and councillors wanting a site visit with officers to inform any decision.

Replacement homes at Water Road/Dee Road, Tilehurst (PL/25/1513)
Work is underway on a scheme replacing four houses at the junction of Water Road and Dee Road. The Hurst Collection’s project is described as delivering six four‑bedroom and five three‑bedroom homes when finished. The site was marketed by Winkworth. While materials and the construction method statement were approved, the council rejected details of the boundary treatment.
House to family centre, Connaught Road (PL/25/1688)
Permission has been granted to convert a six‑bed house in Connaught Road, West Reading, into a mother care centre. An appraisal says the centre would "support mothers to care for their babies and bring those skills to their family homes." Each family will have a private bedroom with baby monitoring systems, cots and storage. The centre will house up to three families at a time, with up to three staff staying there.
Extensions above shops on Oxford Road approved (PL/25/1340)
Plans to add a two‑storey extension to the flats above Kai Nails and Reading Vape have been approved, alongside removal of a paper advertising board. The work will create space for a bedroom and bathroom in flat one and a shower room in flat two.
