£9bn Investment to Transform Military Homes

Armed forces families in 156 military homes around Burghfield will see a major boost from the Government.

Armed forces families in 156 military homes around Burghfield are set to benefit from a significant Government initiative.

The new Defence Housing Strategy, unveiled on Tuesday, will see a £9bn investment over the next decade aimed at enhancing living conditions.

Local MP Olivia Bailey highlights that this plan will improve nine out of ten forces family homes and establish a new Defence Housing Service to better assist military families.

This initiative follows Labour’s successful deal to return 36,000 forces family homes to public ownership, including 12,466 in the South East, saving over £200m per year in rent that will now be reinvested in home improvements.

According to Bailey, Labour’s commitment aims to rectify years of underinvestment, which has resulted in low satisfaction with military accommodation and affected morale.

Ms Bailey expressed pride in representing those who serve the country, stating, “Today’s announcement of record investment and a ‘Forces First’ approach will deliver homes fit for our local heroes.”

“This is what we mean by national renewal.”
