An appeal has been lodged against the refusal of West Berkshire Council to grant planning permission for storage containers in Midgham.
An appeal has been lodged after West Berkshire Council refused planning permission for storage containers at The Nurseries, Bath Road in Midgham. The applicant sought a change of use to retain four existing containers and site a further 20 for self‑storage.
The refusal was based on concerns about highway safety, but the appellant says the evidence shows these worries are unjustified and that planning committee members did not have a proper technical assessment.
“The transport analysis undertaken by Glanville Consultants Ltd, using Department for Transport approved methodologies, confirms that the additional traffic generated by the proposal would be negligible and the reduced visibility splay has been exaggerated,” the appeal states. The application estimated an extra six two‑way trips a day, spread through the day — roughly one vehicle movement per hour.
The applicant also says the refusal is inconsistent with previous approvals on this site and elsewhere in the authority area. “Given the clear compliance with both national and local planning policy, the robust highways evidence presented, and the absence of any demonstrable harm, the appeal should be allowed,” said the appeal.
