Appeal Launched for Rejected Woodley Annexe

A plan for an annexe that was rejected over concerns it could be turned into a new home in Woodley could still be approved.

A plan for an annexe in Woodley, initially rejected due to fears it could become a separate home, may still get the green light.

The owner bought the large house on Reading Road for £730,000 last November and sought to build an annexe featuring a double bedroom, ensuite, and open-plan kitchen and living space at the back of the garden.

However, Wokingham Borough Council's planning department turned down the proposal, citing concerns that the annexe would offer all the amenities for independent living, including a separate access route.

The project was deemed an 'inappropriate development in a residential garden' when it was rejected in March.

Despite this setback, the homeowner has appealed the decision to the government’s planning inspectorate. An agent from J&L is now advocating on their behalf, arguing the annexe is meant for use alongside the main dwelling.

The agent stated, "The description of development was accepted by the council, and the appeal should focus on the annexe as part of the main property, not as a separate home." They further contended that future occupants would not be able to exit independently, as access to the garden is only possible through the main house.

The appeal's date for consideration by a planning inspector is yet to be set. You can track the application by entering reference 250141 on the council’s planning portal, and follow the appeal with reference APP/X0360/D/25/3364233 on the planning inspectorate website.
