More than 100 people from the Reading area took part in a meditation event held simultaneously across the world.
More than 100 people from the Reading area joined a global meditation event as part of World Meditation Day, with hundreds attending the Berkshire Meditates gathering at St Nicholas Church in Earley.
The session was organised by the Art of Living team in Berkshire, followers of Gurudev Sri Sri Ravishankar, who practise breathwork, meditation and practical wisdom. The event was attended by councillor Raj Singh, the leader of the Conservatives on Reading Borough Council.
Cllr Singh (Conservative, Kentwood), said: “I met Gurudev in Basel to see what it was all about. “ I asked Gurudev what is your advice for me, I’m into politics. He looked at me, with a smile, a genuine smile, and he said: ‘keep your mind over madness’. “It was such simple yet powerful advice.”
Mr Wagh said: “The event was a powerful reminder of the importance of coming together with Cllr Raj Singh to talk openly about mental health. “The turnout, engagement, and heartfelt conversations showed just how deeply this issue resonates within our community. It was an evening marked by compassion, connection, and hope—reinforcing that when we create safe spaces for dialogue, healing and understanding can truly begin.”
As many as 12.1 million people meditated with Gurudev Sri Sri Ravishankar live from New York. The first World Meditation Day held in 2024 broke the Guinness World Record for the most people taking part in a single meditation event.
