Demolition is taking place on a large four-storey office building in Bracknell to make way for a new industrial warehouse.
Demolition is under way at RSA House in Bracknell’s Western Road industrial area to make space for a new industrial warehouse.
The four‑storey office block, built in 2000 on a prominent 1.5‑acre site at the junction of Western Road, Turnpike Road, Wokingham Road and Moordale Avenue, previously housed the RSA Security UK offices.
Drone photos from Binfield-based Styles Views show the central section gutted by demolition plant, with only the superstructure and rubble left and two remaining sections linked by the frame.
Bracknell Forest Council approved plans to replace RSA House with a new commercial building intended for the research and development of products or industrial processes. The plans say the replacement has been designed to enhance the site’s appearance; amendments to the building design and parking layout were made after talks with council officers.
The planning department approved the replacement in October 2023, with a condition that work must start within three years and that demolition details be submitted and accepted. The council approved the demolition-phase details on Wednesday, October 8.
Concerns were raised about the impact on trees and underground roots, so a condition requires existing trees, hedgerows and groups of mature shrubs to be protected during the works. The council’s planning department has accepted details relating to tree retention, clearing the way for the demolition seen in the photos.
RSA House was bought by the Angle Opportunity Fund for approximately £3.2 million in August 2022. At the time, James Good, director of Angle Property, suggested the site could have a ‘retail-led’ occupier, but that idea was later dropped in favour of industrial use.
Approved plans can be seen on Bracknell council’s planning portal under application 22/00879/FUL (replacement building) and 25/00117/COND (demolition details). Styles Views’ Facebook photos also show local landmarks including The Point in Bracknell, Bird Hills Golf Course in Hawthorn Hill and Reading FC’s Select Car Leasing Stadium.
