Bracknell Partnership Secures Future Housing Plans

The future of the partnership that is delivering more than 200 homes in Bracknell has been agreed upon.

The future of a partnership delivering over 200 homes in Bracknell has been confirmed.

This partnership has replaced the old Coopers Hill Youth & Community Centre with 52 new homes.

Currently, they are building four tower blocks with 169 apartments on the former bus depot in Market Street.

Known as the Bracknell Forest Cambium Partnership, this joint venture between Bracknell Forest Council and Countryside Homes focuses on a mix of market and affordable housing.

At Coopers Hill, 13 affordable homes have been developed by the housing association Abri, offering two and three-bedroom options through shared ownership and affordable rent.

For Market Street, 29 of the apartments will be shared ownership and 52 will be available through social rent.

The partnership will also play a key role in the council's town centre masterplan, which includes redeveloping the High Street Car Park and the 'Southern Gateway' area near the train station.

A report to the council's cabinet discussed the partnership's ongoing collaboration to set development priorities for these projects and plans to appoint an architect for feasibility studies.

Councillor Megan Wright raised concerns about ensuring the right types of homes are built for the community, asking how the partnership meets local housing needs.

Stuart McKellar, the council's director for resources, responded that while the Cambium Partnership can't cover all housing requirements, each development plan is approved by the council to align with local objectives.

He also noted that the partnership is responsible for demolishing the High Street Car Park, which recently saw its last tenant, the Acoustic Couch, close.

The cabinet acknowledged the partnership's business plan during their meeting on September 23.

Countryside Homes was acquired by Vistry Group in late 2022.
