Bracknell's The Point Set for Redevelopment

The building that used to contain a bowling alley, cinema and a pizza restaurant in Bracknell is now completely closed.

The Point in Bracknell, once bustling with Hollywood Bowl, Odeon cinema, and Pizza Hut, is now closed.

The Hollywood Bowl, the last remaining business, shut its doors on October 20, paving the way for the building's demolition and future housing development.

Part of the Peel Centre, which houses big stores like Home Bargains and Morrisons, The Point is set for redevelopment under the Bracknell Forest Local Plan, adopted in March 2022.

This plan earmarks the site for 900 apartments, with about 600 expected within the next 12 years, including 210 affordable homes.

Additionally, some apartments will cater to older residents, addressing local housing needs.

Despite The Point's closure, Morrisons remains open, and the Peel Centre has a vacancy rate of 20%. The Local Plan mandates a new supermarket be built before Morrisons is demolished.

However, demolition of The Point is not expected for another five to six years, with housing development projected to start around 2031/2032.

The Local Plan also calls for new commercial spaces, better public areas, and improvements to local junctions for better pedestrian and cyclist access.
