West Berkshire Council is currently reviewing a planning application for a controversial solar farm covering over 2,000 acres in Wiltshire.
Island Green Power proposes to build Lime Down Solar Park north of the M4 near Malmesbury, claiming it will supply energy to power 115,000 homes annually.
The project spans six villages, including Hullavington, Stanton St Quintin, Sherston, and Luckington, and has faced backlash from local councillors and campaigners who worry it will leave a “permanent scar” on the landscape.
Due to its size, the decision will be made by Ed Miliband, the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, who has previously greenlit significant projects as the government aims for 95 percent clean energy in the UK by 2030.
