Another big tree is about to get chopped down in Newbury.
Another big tree is set to be chopped down in Newbury.
The council has requested permission to fell a large beech in Goldwell Park.
Concerned about public reaction, they've taken to social media to state that the decision was “not taken lightly.”
According to the council, the tree has been suffering from serious root and basal decay fungus for nearly a decade.
They added, “Despite careful investigations, the risk of the tree falling during high winds has increased, and because it stands next to a busy footpath, safety must come first.”
The council claims tree specialists recommend this course of action, promising to plant a replacement.
The tree is expected to be removed in December or January.
