Council Tax Hike Avoided Amid Budget Concerns

Political survival is cited as one of the reasons council tax payers won’t get a massive hike this year.

West Berkshire Council could have held a council tax referendum to raise extra funding, but this was rejected because of the increased burden on taxpayers that could have a negative local economic impact, the associated costs of the referendum and the likely adverse impact on the electoral vote.

The standard 2.99 per cent increase plus a two per cent adult social care charge will be recommended.

Band A council tax will be £1,516.19, Band B £1,768.89, Band C £2,021.58, Band D £2,274.28, Band E £2,779.68, Band F £3,285.07, Band G £3,790.47 and Band H £4,548.56.
