Doctor Faces Fraud Charges Over False Passport

A doctor who was jailed for using a false passport is facing allegations he didn’t disclose the conviction while working in Shropshire.

A doctor who was jailed for using a false passport is facing allegations he didn’t disclose the conviction while working in Shropshire.

Between July 2004 and October 2005 Dr Victor Evbuomwan used a false passport on several occasions in Berkshire. On 24 August 2007 he was convicted on four counts of using a false instrument and two of obtaining a pecuniary advantage for self by deception. For each offence he was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment, to be served concurrently.

On 29 February 2024, after his employer Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Hospital Trust queried the conviction, Dr Evbuomwan said: “I understood it was an immigration matter of over 15 years ago that has been successfully appealed.” He has admitted saying that at a Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) hearing, but does not agree his conviction was for fraud/criminal offences and says he only appealed the deportation order.

He has denied his conduct was dishonest and denied his fitness to practise is impaired.

In total Dr Evbuomwan faces 14 charges, some of which have been admitted and found proved. The majority of the allegations relate to his time working in Berkshire and include making false declarations on forms about his court conviction. He also worked at Northampton General Hospital.

The MPTS hearing is scheduled to last until 10 February.
