A quirky shopping arcade in Reading town centre will be getting a fresh new look for the first time in years.
A quirky shopping arcade in Reading town centre is set to receive a fresh makeover after years of neglect.
The Harris Arcade, a hub for independent shops, offers a vibe similar to London's Burlington Arcade.
Shoppers can explore a range of unique businesses, including Crunch Comics, The Sound Machine records, Shave & Coster tobacconists, and a smoothie drinks outlet.
Foodies can indulge in bites from Pierre's Baguettes and Zorba's Kebabs while perusing antiques and hats from the Adrienne Henry Millinery.
The arcade serves as a convenient link between Friar Street and Station Road.
The owning company recently applied to Reading Borough Council for permission to repaint the arcade's wooden surfaces. Initially, they proposed a willow tree colour, but after discussions with council officers, the shade was changed to 'Burford Green.'
Planning officer Jonathan Markwell stated that the refurbishment aims to enhance the heritage asset and invigorate the arcade's atmosphere, boosting the overall retail experience.
The council approved the repainting project last month.
The Harris Arcade is owned by AEW, a global capital management firm that acquired it in 2022. Since then, The Pitcher & Piano bar has become The Signal Box, and Boom Battle Bar has taken over from Revolution.
