Late Night Convenience Store Proposal Sparks Debate

Pop Ins, a convenience store on Erleigh Road in East Reading near the uni, has applied to extend its late-night hours so it could stay open until 1am on busy nights.

It sits next to Hong Kong City takeaway and opposite the Co-op, serving students and locals with snacks, frozen meals, booze and American sweets.

The area has many terraced houses converted into homes of multiple occupation (HMOs) for the student population, so the shop is handy for that crowd.

Current hours: 8am-11pm Monday-Saturday, 8am-10.30pm Sunday. The application asks to sell alcohol 8am-11pm Monday-Tuesday, until 1am Wednesday-Saturday, and 10am-11pm on Sundays.

Reading Borough Council has opened a statutory consultation. Email licensing@reading.gov.uk to have your say.

The consultation closes on Wednesday, April 15.
