The MP for Bracknell has spoken about a patriotic vision for national renewal at the Labour Party conference.
The MP for Bracknell, Peter Swallow, recently shared his vision for a patriotic national renewal at the Labour Party conference in Liverpool.
The event marked a significant moment for Labour, having taken control of the government 14 months ago after the 2024 general election. However, the party has faced challenges, including protests against asylum seeker housing and setbacks with benefit reforms.
Amidst this backdrop, right-wing activists launched Operation Raise the Colours, displaying UK and England flags across the nation, including in parks around Bracknell.
Swallow emphasised the importance of patriotism within Labour, stating, “The Labour Party has always been a party of patriotism. We’re proud of our flag, it’s on our membership card, and at the heart of everything we do.”
He also highlighted concerns over the rise of the Reform party, urging the government to respond with sensible policies that genuinely improve lives in Bracknell and beyond.
Swallow's remarks were shared via a video post on X on October 1, the final day of the conference. He was elected in 2024 with a slim 784-vote majority, but predictions suggest Reform could take the Bracknell seat in the next election.
