New Café Owner Plans Bar and Name Change

A cafe in Reading has changed hands, with the new owner hoping to add a bar to sell alcoholic drinks to customers.

A cafe in Reading, Minas Café, has a new owner who plans to introduce a bar serving alcohol.

Since opening in April 2023 on Buckland Road, previously the site of Whiteknights estate agents, the café has been a hit in a bustling area opposite Morrisons and Aldi at the Oldfield Retail Park.

Alongside local gems like Zotta Deli and Cravings Land, the café is known for its hearty breakfasts and Brazilian delicacies, which new owner Michael Parisotto intends to keep.

Michael stated, “The food menu will be all the same. Normally, we close at 7pm, but we could make that later. We will start off by selling wine, spirits, cocktails and beers. It will be a very simple bar.”

He took over around eight weeks ago and has applied for a premises licence from Reading Borough Council to serve alcohol daily from 9am to 11pm. A consultation is currently open for feedback at licensing@reading.gov.uk, with a deadline for responses on Friday, November 21.

Future plans include renaming the café to ‘Mj Butequim’ and improving the outdoor decking area.
