New Coffee Shop Set to Open in Reading

A coffee chain with 95 locations is gearing up to take over a closed cafe near hundreds of homes and a train station in Reading.

A coffee chain with 95 locations is set to take over a closed café on Flagstaff Road in Green Park Village, a short walk from hundreds of homes, Green Park train station and Green Park Village Primary School.

The Triple Two Coffee shop opened in March 2023 but has been closed for months. A report says the brand was discontinued by its parent company, Cooks Coffee Company.

The site is now due to become Esquires Coffee, which has 95 locations in England and Ireland, including Newbury, Crowthorne, Windsor and Maidenhead.

The company website states: "All Esquires coffee is grown using century-old traditional farming methods. This means no chemicals are used; in fact, much of our coffee is cleverly grown as part of the existing ecosystem, so no land is damaged. This might mean that our coffee takes a little longer to grow, but that’s no sacrifice when we know it’s being produced as it always has and should be, with minimal impact to the local environment and communities."

Ahead of opening, Esquires has applied to sell alcohol between 7am and 10pm each day. The alcohol sales bid has been submitted in a licensing application to Reading Borough Council and a statutory consultation is currently live.

You can make a representation by emailing licensing@reading.gov.uk. The deadline for representations is Friday, December 5.

The Esquires Coffee brand is owned by Cooks Coffee Company.
