A major project to replace a former Ministry of Justice building in Reading town centre with over 260 flats has taken a significant step forward.
Greyfriars House, which used to house a probation office, is set to be demolished and replaced with 266 ‘co-living’ flats.
Additionally, the transformation of offices into 43 flats on a busy road is nearing completion, and a new brewery is coming to an industrial estate.
Co-living flats project approved (PL/24/1501)
The plan for Greyfriars House has been approved by councillors, subject to a legal agreement requiring a contribution of £891,500 towards affordable housing, which was finalised on August 28.
Office conversion completed (PL/25/0994)
The former Alexander House offices in Kings Road have been transformed into 43 one and two-bedroom flats, featuring energy-efficient appliances and high-performance insulation.
This project was signed off on August 26 and is located near Cemetery Junction.
Phantom Brewing's new brewery (PL/25/0943)
Phantom Brewing has received the green light to convert an industrial building in West Reading into a brewery. The new taproom will allow customers to sample their beers on-site.
Currently located on Meadow Road, Phantom Brewing will see 7Bone Burger join them in the taproom from October 2023.
Solar panels for private hospital (PL/25/0439)
The Spire Dunedin private hospital in Bath Road has been approved to install 20 solar panels on its Vicarage Building, with renovations deemed acceptable by the council's planning department.
