Plans to Convert Jolly Anglers on Hold

A plan to convert a riverside pub in Reading into flats has been put on hold.

A proposal to turn Reading's Jolly Anglers pub into flats has been halted.

The riverside pub has been closed for two years and the plan to transform it into 16 flats is currently on the back burner.

Meanwhile, the Reading Borough Council has recently approved plans for more local housing initiatives.

Jolly Anglers Conversion Withdrawn (PL/25/0513)

An application to convert the Jolly Anglers into 16 bedsits has been withdrawn. The plan aimed to create shared living spaces with multiple bedrooms and lounges.

Having last operated in November 2023 after a £100,000 refurbishment that introduced a pool and beach bar, the pub has been on the market since its closure, with its latest listing removed in June.

Flats Above KFC Approved (PL/25/1105)

Plans to convert the second floor of the KFC on Broad Street into apartments have been approved. This area was previously used for storage, but will now feature two three-bedroom flats.

Planning officer Gary Miles noted the proposal met all necessary regulations, allowing the project to move forward.

New Homes on Addington Road (PL/25/1061)

In the university area, two four-bedroom terraced homes will be constructed on the site of a demolished bungalow, which also featured advertising boards and parking spaces. This proposal received approval back in June 2021.

New Home in Norcot Approved (PL/21/1340)

A two-storey, two-bedroom home in Thornton Road, West Reading, has been approved by the council on November 17, following two previous refusals. Planning officer Connie Davis confirmed this application aligned with local policies.
