The first joint festival of inclusivity, featuring sports for people of all ages and abilities, has been celebrated in Reading.
A groundbreaking festival promoting inclusivity for all ages and abilities took place in Reading last Saturday (September 13) at Palmer Park and Stadium.
This joint event was a collaboration between Sport Together Berkshire CIC, Reading Borough Council, and GLL, the council's leisure contractor.
Visitors enjoyed a variety of sports including football, cricket, rugby, archery, bowls, cycling, and running on the new stadium track. Medals for participants were handed out by Councillor Alice Mpofu-Coles (Labour, Whitley), the mayor.
Attending councillor Andrew Hornsby-Smith (Labour, Church) praised the event, saying: "There were lots of young athletes and sports for all abilities. Thanks to the organising team and the athletes, and our Cllr Mpofu-Coles who managed to beat Matt Rodda MP to the finish line!" He added, "It was brilliant to see the kids get their medals; they were delighted!"
Labour MP for Reading Central, Matt Rodda, expressed his admiration, stating, "It was wonderful to see so many young people with disabilities enjoying sport at Palmer Park. Thank you to everyone involved in making this inspiring event happen."
