An appeal has been lodged against West Berkshire Council blocking the development of 167 flats in Newbury – because of parking issues.
An appeal has been made against West Berkshire Council's decision to block 167 new flats in Newbury due to parking concerns.
While the plans for Sterling Gardens on Hector's Way were initially approved, developers are seeking to lift the parking condition imposed by the council.
This request was denied, as the council believes it would eliminate nine previously approved parking spaces.
According to the council, this would worsen the already oversubscribed parking situation in Newbury E1, where permits exceed available spaces.
The lack of parking could lead to increased on-street parking in other areas, negatively impacting road safety and traffic flow.
The Sterling Gardens development has transformed the old Sterling Cables site, replacing the old tower with 167 apartments and creating a new link road to improve traffic between Kings Road and Hambridge Road.
However, residents on Kings Road have reported increased parking issues since the estate and road's construction.
Prior to the main application, more than a dozen objections were raised, with many claiming the proposal fails to address crucial local needs, particularly regarding parking.
