Residents Rally Against Unauthorised Woodland Development

A petition has been launched by residents worried about an unauthorised development in woodland near Tadley and opposite AWE to construct multiple static homes.

Residents near Tadley have launched a petition against an unauthorised development in woodland across from AWE, where multiple static homes are being constructed.

West Berkshire Council is gathering evidence from local residents to escalate the case urgently.

Despite a Temporary Stop Notice issued on November 4, unauthorised work has continued over the weekend.

“We understand how distressing this is for nearby residents, especially given the scale of the activity,” a council spokesperson stated.

A meeting on Monday involved senior management, legal teams, and planning enforcement to discuss the next steps, including possible prosecution for violating the Temporary Stop Notice, and considering further legal actions like an injunction.

While the council cannot remove individuals from the land, it has requested assistance from Thames Valley Police and the Ministry of Defence Police due to the number of calls from residents regarding public safety.

According to the petition organisers, the woodland activities may breach planning regulations and are causing ecological damage, threatening a beloved green space used by the community.

The land is reportedly being cleared and developed without permission for about 13 static home plots.

“Construction is occurring from 6 am to nearly midnight, causing significant disruption and anxiety for nearby residents, many of whom are older and vulnerable,” the petition claims.

“Moreover, there have been attempts to illegally access park water and electricity, heightening concerns about safety.”

“Our community feels unsafe and unprotected. We need urgent action to stop further environmental harm and prevent unregulated development.”

Petitioners stress that this woodland is crucial for local wildlife and its preservation is at serious risk.
