Speaker Hoyle Tours Award-Winning Berkshire Breweries

Order! Order! Two Berkshire breweries had a very important visitor last week.

Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the House of Commons, came to Wokingham after a personal invite from MP Clive Jones to taste prize-winning beers brewed at the Hogwood Lane Estate industrial estate in Finchampstead.

Two beers brewed at the Hogwood Lane Estate won CAMRA awards: Elusive Brewing’s Oregon Trail, ‘bold and bitter West Coast IPA with notes of Orange Citrus and pine resin’, is the current CAMRA Champion IPA for Great Britain. Next door, Siren Craft Brew’s “Broken Dream”, a stout containing real coffee, was awarded Gold at the 2018 Champion Beer of Britain competition.

Andy Parker, the managing director of the brewery, appreciated the speaker’s visit. He said: “He was in great spirits actually, really enjoying himself.  He did enjoy the beer.”

Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP said: “Breweries are the lifeblood of many communities including in my constituency of Chorley, Lancashire, creating not just fantastic beer,  often by brewers who have incredible back stories and a passion to innovate,  but also jobs and a sense of pride among locals.

“I was honoured to join my colleague Clive Jones MP in his Wokingham constituency to meet the teams at Elusive Brewing and Siren Craft Brew to hear how they are developing their UK businesses and their range of popular locally produced beers.”
