Thames Water Fined for Newbury Traffic Chaos

Thames Water has been fined for causing traffic chaos at Hambridge Road in Newbury at the weekend.

Thames Water has been hit with a fine for causing major traffic problems on Hambridge Road in Newbury over the weekend.

The road was closed due to a leak that needed urgent repairs, but the company misled the council about the traffic management plan, stating it would use multi-way signals.

After the incident, Thames Water issued an apology and received a fixed penalty notice from West Berkshire Council for providing incorrect permit details.

The leak has now been fixed, and the company aims to have the road reinstated by Monday (October 13).

This follows a recent conviction in September where Thames Water was found guilty of illegally discharging raw sewage into local waterways, affecting sites like a fishing lake in Newbury and the Kennet and Avon Canal. No information on the fine for this offence has been disclosed.
