Tree Roots Cause Toilet Nightmare in Reading

tA neighbour is suffering from roots coming up from their toilet due to a tree endangering the flats where they live in Reading.

A neighbour in Reading is facing serious plumbing issues due to roots emerging from their toilet, linked to a problematic tree endangering their block of flats.

Antheny Gourr, who resides in Copenhagen Close, Whitley Wood, has shared photos showing cracks in the brickwork caused by the roots of a Norwegian spruce tree that should have been removed.

He is urging the A2Dominion housing association to act quickly. Mr Gourr stated, “One side of the building is subsiding... it’s taken seven years to get to this stage.” He highlighted that two residents have major health conditions and feel neglected.

He added, “It could take a year for them to take action – they’re not sure how they will resolve it or fund it.”

Mr Gourr also assists a neighbour who has faced the unsettling issue of roots pushing up from her toilet. “If you flush the toilet, roots start appearing,” he explained, emphasizing the distress it has caused her. She’s lived with this for four years, and it’s taking a toll on her health.

He complained about the slow response from A2Dominion, mentioning that the condition of his home worsens each year. “We can’t open and close windows without force, and having to wait a year is unacceptable.”

A2Dominion responded, with Dawn Wightman, Director of Customer & Communities, saying, “We’re sorry to hear about the concerns raised... safety is our top priority. An external assessment identified subsidence, and further investigations are taking place.”
