Newbury’s Waitrose is getting a refit.
Newbury’s Waitrose is set to undergo a major refit, featuring a new bakery and upgraded meat and fish counters.
The transformation, costing millions, is expected to be completed by early November and includes a new yard and plant area for store operations.
However, the plans have received 12 objections, mainly highlighting existing noise disturbances from A4 traffic and deliveries, including engine noise and loading activities.
Despite the renovations, the store will remain open, with updates for customers expected soon.
Among the highlights is a ‘food lovers’ hub, a dedicated area at the front of the store designed for food discovery, complete with digital screens and recipe cards. There will also be an enhanced wine selection.
Waitrose branch manager, Nick Lindsley, commented: “We have proudly served Newbury for over 10 years and this investment underlines our commitment to Newbury and the confidence we have in the town. We will make every effort to ensure customers are in no way impacted by the upgrade as they come in for their usual shopping with us. We look forward to unveiling the exciting changes in the coming weeks.”
