West Berkshire is one of the least deprived areas in England according to official figures.
West Berkshire is one of the least deprived areas in England, boasting only four local authorities with even less deprivation.
In 2023, just 2.5% of the working-age population, around 2,100 people, were unemployed, significantly lower than the national rate of 3.7% and the best in South East England.
According to the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government, 7.7% of residents struggled to afford sufficient fuel in 2022, well below the regional average of 9.7% and national average of 13.1%.
A report to West Berkshire’s health board highlights that while rural areas typically enjoy better financial stability and health, inequalities can still exist, with some facing notable deprivation.
Fortunately, the Rural Deprivation Index for Health reveals that no areas in West Berkshire rank among the 10% most disadvantaged.
Additionally, rural populations tend to be older, with an average age nearly six years greater than their urban counterparts.
