West Berkshire's Ageing Population Revealed

The population of West Berkshire is older than the South East average.

West Berkshire has an older population than the South East average, with a median age of 43 compared to 42.

Adults aged 65 and over make up 20% of West Berkshire’s residents, slightly more than the South East’s 19%.

Bucklebury ward has the highest percentage of older adults at 25%, while Newbury Greenham has the lowest at 13%.

Ethnic minorities represent 8% of West Berkshire’s population, lower than the South East’s 14% and England’s 19% overall.

In Tilehurst South & Holybrook, a fifth of residents identify as part of an ethnic minority, but this drops to just 2% in Downlands.

Language barriers aren't a major concern in the area, although Newbury Clay Hill has the highest number of residents struggling with English, while Pangbourne has the fewest.

These statistics come from a Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment examining chemist provisions in the district.
