Wingstop Set to Open in Reading Retail Park

Wingstop is set to open a second Reading restaurant at Reading Gate Retail Park in Whitley, moving into the unit that most recently housed Pizza Hut.

The chain, known for wings, boneless chicken, loaded fries, desserts and shakes, has been granted permission by Reading Borough Council to sell food and alcohol from 10am to 1am every day.

The licensing application drew no comments during the statutory consultation, which closed on Wednesday, March 11. The licence also allows Wingstop to sell beers from drinks partner Camden Town Brewery.

The company website lists the Reading Gate Retail Park venue as 'coming soon!'

The unit has had a few occupants in recent years: Itsu was in the building from the summer of 2021 until March 2025, and Pizza Hut occupied the site from the 1990s. A Pizza Hut reopening last August lasted just two months after franchisee DC London Pie went into administration.

The building sits next to the KFC drive-thru. Wingstop is recruiting now — interested applicants can search for vacancies online or scan a QR code at the upcoming restaurant.

Wingstop opened its first Reading site at The Oracle in 2021, in a unit previously occupied by Chick-fil-A and Miami Burger.
