The only post office in Woodley, inside the convenience store on Crockhamwell Road, has been earmarked for closure, the company confirmed.
There has been a post office in Crockhamwell Road since the early 1960s. The store became Morrisons Daily in November 2024.
A spokesperson said the store is on a proposed list of Morrisons Daily closures. If the decision goes ahead the shop will close on Sunday, July 12, with post office services likely to cease by the end of this month.
The Local Democracy Reporting Service visited the town centre on Friday, June 5. The shop has one large counter and sells snacks, sweets, cold drinks and alcohol.
Charlie Langdale said: "Never mind, we’ve mounted bigger obstacles and got over it, it’s just convenient here, isn’t it?"
A retired woman said: "I’ve just come in to pay my gas bill.
"It used to be run very well. The old owners were good."
William Lawrence said: "Morrisons want to focus on bigger stores. I know they are closing some Daily’s, they are prioritising the supermarkets."
Another shopper asked: "What are we supposed to do for banking and the post office then?
"What are you supposed to do? Go into town [Reading]? That’s ridiculous."
The shop was run as a McColl’s for several years until that chain collapsed. Morrisons bought the business in May 2022 and rebranded it Morrisons Daily, but the supermarket has announced the closure of around 100 Morrisons Daily stores.
There are currently Post Offices at The Parade in Brecon Road and Wheelers Green at the end of Drovers Way.
