Bracknell MP Peter Swallow says he "stands with Nepal" and supports rescue efforts after floods and avalanches that have tragically killed more than 1,000 people.
A glacier collapse and ice-rock avalanche on Wednesday 26 August near the Nepal-Tibet border triggered catastrophic flash floods and debris flows.
The surge of ice, rock, mud and water swept through settlements in northern and central Nepal, destroying homes, roads and bridges.
Mr Swallow joined fellow MPs for a briefing with Bipin Duwadi from the Nepal embassy on the assistance the government is providing. He attended as secretary of the Nepal All Party Parliamentary Group, which works to encourage good relations between Britain and Nepal.
Mr Swallow said: "The flooding in Nepal and Tibet has been devastating. I know how deeply it has been felt by Bracknell Forest's Nepalese community. I was very proud to be elected as Secretary for the Nepal APPG at a time when support for Nepal has never been more urgent. I was pleased to meet with the acting Ambassador of Nepal to the UK, and receive a briefing from the Minister for the Indo-Pacific on the support the UK Government has offered Nepal, including £5 million in aid. Nepal has always stood with the UK in our greatest need. It is right that we stand by Nepal now, in theirs."
The meeting with Mr Duwadi took place on Monday 7 September.
