Details have emerged from the first meeting of a new cross-party group set up to tackle parking and congestion around Twyford station after the Elizabeth Line linked the area more directly to central London.
The group, formed in March, is led by Cllr Adrian Betteridge and includes Cllr Peter Harper (Con) and Cllr Nagi Nagella (Lab). Some Conservatives want more parking; Liberal Democrats are pushing a mix of walking, cycling and public transport.
One idea on the table is a dedicated rush-hour bus between Wokingham and Twyford, potentially running from Broad Street and the Coppid Beech park and ride.
The group's first meeting on 24 March included a representative from Great Western Railway, who shared passenger demand data and travel patterns. Members discussed improving station access, including possible forecourt changes.
Councillors said the meeting was constructive and that there are no immediate fixes, but they are committed to finding short- and long-term sustainable solutions. Some details remain confidential while ideas mature.
The group is due to meet again in May, when a draft report is expected for the councils executive, and a follow-up meeting is planned after the May elections to continue progressing the work. Cllr Nagella will continue to press for a direct bus service.
