Exciting New Fitness Club Planned for Reading

Early plans have emerged for a new David Lloyd fitness and wellness club in Green Park, Reading. David Lloyd Leisure was founded in 1982 and now operates about 150 clubs across the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe.

The proposal would place a purpose-built facility on unused grassland off Longwater Avenue, near the Three mobile and Wood Plc offices.

Planned facilities include a state-of-the-art gym, heated indoor and outdoor pools, a spa and spa garden, a stylish clubroom_ and top-class racquet courts, with a permanent tennis enclosure and padel courts with a canopy roof.

A project website has been launched ahead of a planning application. It shows indicative CGI images-solar panels, alfresco dining, an outdoor pool-but makes clear they are not necessarily of the proposed Green Park club.

The website says the scheme would create around 80-100 full-time equivalent jobs. It also notes a new access from Longwater Avenue linking to the wider road network and the A33, with the nearest bus stop about a two-minute walk away.

Visitors can get updates and leave contact details on the website, or call 0800 080 3171 or email davidlloyd@devcomms.co.uk.

You can use a David Lloyd Club without a full membership via a guest pass, day pass or short-term trial, though the business is mainly membership-based.

David Lloyd already has centres at Thames Valley Park in Earley, Nine Mile Ride in Bracknell and Maidenhead town centre.
