Green Party Launches Ambitious Election Campaign

Green MP Carla Denyer launched her party's election campaign in Reading at a town-centre rally.

Denyer said: "Over the last few years, it has been brilliant to see local Green Parties like Reading go from strength to strength."

She added: "Greens are already the second largest party on Reading Borough Council, and in just a couple of weeks I'm looking forward to celebrating a record-breaking number of Green councillors here & across the UK."

The rally included Rob White, leader of the Greens in Reading, councillors and candidates.

White said: "We have a lot of momentum locally, and expect to win a number of new seats in this election." He added: "Reading voters have had enough of the Labour-controlled council. I'm very grateful to Carla for making the trip to Reading to support our campaign."

National polls point to a record number of Green wins. Locally, the party is already the main challenger to Labour in many wards and hopes to pick up more councillors in closely fought contests.

Candidates include people working in healthcare, education, engineering and community support, many active on affordable housing, cleaner streets and better public services. The visit took place on Sunday, April 19.
