McDonald's to Get Fresh Look in Reading!

Changes are coming to McDonalds at Reading Gate Retail Park in Whitley, plus a handful of other recent planning decisions by Reading Borough Council.

Fresh signs for McDonalds at retail park (PL/26/0902)

Permission was granted for two new illuminated golden 'M' signs: one above the dine-in entrance and one on the drive-thru payment hatch. Planning officer Sian Hickey judged the signs would not distract drivers and approved the scheme on 15 September.

Pizza takeaway for Oxford Road (PL/26/0212)

After the closure of the West Reading Pound Plus store, Oxford Road Pharmacy bought 266-268 Oxford Road. A post office opened there in July 2024, and the owner applied to convert the neighbouring unit into a pizza takeaway. That conversion was approved on 18 September, subject to ventilation and set opening hours of 11am to 10pm each day.

Internet wiring at listed Southcote Lodge (PL/26/0980)

Wiring to provide broadband at Grade II-listed Southcote Lodge has been approved. The buildings date from shortly before 1611 and are now a managed retirement complex, so both external and internal works were assessed for their impact.

Proposed changes to new housing rejected (PL/26/0962)

Work is under way on a two-bed house and four one-bed flats on Pell Street. The developer wanted two rear dormers with windows to provide ensuites to the second-floor flats, but planning officer Ethne Humphreys found the change unneighbourly and the application was refused on 21 September.

You can view each decided application by typing the reference in brackets into the councils planning portal.
