A former clubhouse at an Equestrian Centre has been approved to become a gym. The 'Rowes Clubhouse' was already used for exercise classes; owners were asked to formalise the arrangement with Wokingham Council and planners gave the go-ahead on April 2.
Vanessa Eliott, who has represented Britain in Triathlon, opened the space last year as Berkshire's only total resistance exercise (TRX) studio.
Vanessa said: "Blending elements of strength, mobility and conditioning, the sessions prioritise good movement, consistency and long-term results over fitness fads."
TRX uses suspension training - a form of bodyweight exercise that builds strength, balance and core stability simultaneously - and sessions are designed to be accessible to all while still delivering a challenging, full‑body workout. The studio focuses on small-group classes to create a supportive, inclusive environment where clients can progress at their own pace.
The building is an "oak framed and light-flooded barn" with idyllic views of the neighbouring stables.
Using adjustable straps anchored to a wall, ceiling or rack, you use your own bodyweight for rows, squats and planks. The instability of the straps fires up your core and stabilisers, and changing your body angle lets you dial intensity up or down, so TRX adapts for beginners and athletes alike.
Fans say TRX works for strength and conditioning, high-energy HIIT sessions, improved mobility or even injury rehab - a versatile, full-body system that keeps workouts fresh and challenging.
Vanessa says the studio has quickly built a loyal following and offers a welcoming space where people can train, feel stronger and enjoy the process.
