New Indian Restaurant Seeks Alcohol Licence in Earley

An Indian restaurant called Shapno has opened in the Silverdale Road shopping parade in Earley and has applied to sell alcohol to diners.

Shapno has taken over from The Waterfall and is run by the owners of Jalpari of Woodley. The parade also houses the Fad food store, a Boots pharmacy and a Coral betting shop.

According to a post on the Earley Residents Discussion Board Facebook page, Shapno opened on Wednesday, October 21.

The menu mixes signature and traditional curry dishes, served with chicken, lamb, duck, prawns and vegetables.

The new managers have applied to Wokingham Borough Council to supply alcohol and play recorded music. Alcohol would be served 11am-11pm Monday to Saturday and 12pm-11pm on Sundays; recorded music would play 11am-11pm daily. The application reference is PR0575.

Anyone who wishes to make representations can email licensing@wokingham.gov.uk. The deadline for responses closes on Friday, November 13.

Jalpari of Woodley was named the 'best restaurant of the year' at the Curry Life Awards last month. Its chef, Enamul Hoque, was crowned the South Central Chef of the Year at the Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards last year, and the restaurant was also named South Central region restaurant of the year in 2023.
