Progress is being made on several Reading planning projects, from a new warehouse to a town-centre ice cream shop.
Logistics hub nearly finished (PL/26/0380 and PL/26/0441)
The Bennet Court offices have been demolished to make way for the Greenlight logistics hub in Whitley. The site on Bennet Road has been partly closed since 18 October last year. The warehouse is nearly finished and will be available to let in July. Details covering 39 parking spaces, four EV charging bays, the building appearance and pest control were recently approved. A permit to close Bennet Road at the A33 junction for Thames Water works has been extended to Monday 29 June.
Ice cream takes over former travel agents (PL/26/0081 and PL/26/0082)
Amarino gelato has planning permission to take the former Thomas Cook/Hays Travel unit at 37 Broad Street, between TG Jones and Wenzels. Amarino already operates in Henley, Marlow and Bracknell, as well as elsewhere in Europe and Egypt.
Historic building converted back into a home (PL/26/0083 and PL/26/0089)
Part of a Grade II listed building on Castle Street, dating to the 16th century, is being converted back into a home with facade repairs and room works. Planning officer Marcelina Rejwerska found the changes acceptable and noted the property has long mixed commercial and residential uses, so no change of use application was needed.
New signage for Caversham dealership (PL/26/0332)
Advertising for the Marshall dealership in Peppard Road, Emmer Green, showing Seat and Cupra logos was approved on 7 May. Cupra is the high-performance spin-off from Seat launched in 2018.
