Aldi and Lidl are both vying to open new stores in Bracknell.
Aldi has applied to split the former Homebase site off Wokingham Road, near the Downshire Way roundabout, to make way for a store.
A Lidl planning agent objected in December, saying Lidl itself is progressing proposals for a 'sequentially superior site' closer to the town centre.
"The Homebase site is out-of-centre in policy terms, and Lidl are concerned with Aldi's proposal to trade from it as they themselves are moving forward with proposals for a Limited Assortment Discount store on a sequentially superior site within Bracknell."
Lidl has launched a public consultation and is preparing a planning application. Consultation documents show The Point being demolished to make way for a Lidl supermarket.
The Point previously housed Pizza Hut, Odeon and Hollywood Bowl - all had closed by October last year.
The Peel Centre is identified in the council's adopted Local Plan for a mixed-use development with a total of 900 homes; an illustrative plan shows The Point as a supermarket and a landmark building, and lists another landmark that could be the existing Morrisons.
The Peel Centre is almost fully occupied, with one vacancy where Sports Direct used to be, between Pets at Home and Carpetright.
You can view Aldi's application for the former Homebase under reference 25/00535/NMA on the council planning portal, and see Lidl's consultation on its website.
This would be Lidl's first Bracknell store; the nearest existing Lidl stores are Molly Millars Lane in Wokingham and Crowthorne High Street. Aldi's only Bracknell supermarket is at the Birch Hill shopping precinct in Liscombe.
