Volker Highways has lost West Berkshire Council's long-running highways contract.
Chelmsford, Essex-based Marlborough Highways will take over maintenance of the district's roads, after a contract cooling-off period ahead of a formal announcement of a new seven-year deal at the end of next week.
The contract value could rise to £300m depending on the Local Government Reorganisation, which may see West Berkshire join up with other councils in Oxfordshire.
Eight companies took part in the procurement, with five shortlisted to bid. The decision was made at last week's executive committee.
