Bracknell Town Centre to Lose Final Post Office

Bracknell town centre is set to lose its last Post Office after TG Jones confirmed plans to shut its Princess Square shop in early 2027.

The Post Office branch inside TG Jones will close when the shop shuts as part of the retailer's national restructuring. Bracknell's main Crown Post Office closed in 2015 and services later moved to WHSmith, which rebranded to TG Jones in 2025.

The Post Office says it is looking for a replacement branch in Bracknell but warned this can take time. Customers can use nearby branches in Priestwood, Harmans Water, Great Hollands and Birch Hill; the nearest is Windlesham Road Post Office in Priestwood Square, about 0.7 miles from the town centre.

"We fully recognise the challenging trading conditions that TG Jones and many other High Street retailers are facing at the moment.

"TG Jones had its Restructuring Plan approved by the High Court on July 1. Consequently, TG Jones is to close its Bracknell store. Regrettably, Bracknell Post Office is due to close in early 2027. The date is being finalised.

"The vacancy has already been advertised and we have heard from interested retailers. We are now looking more closely at the expressions of interest.

"We want to open a replacement branch as soon as possible, but this can take around six months."

The future of local postal services was raised in the House of Commons in July by Bracknell MP Peter Swallow.

"Bracknell residents are concerned that two vital local post offices, in Crown Wood and in Bracknell town centre, are at risk of closure because of the travails of their host stores, Morrisons Daily and TG Jones.

"That follows the recent closure of a post office in Easthampstead. Will the Minister please set out what work the Government are doing to protect these vital local services?"

TG Jones said it had confirmed the Bracknell shop will close while it works to secure the company's future.

"As we work to secure the long-term future of TG Jones, we have confirmed that our Bracknell shop will close.

"We know this will be disappointing news for our colleagues, customers, and the local community.

"Our focus now is on supporting those affected and continuing to serve customers throughout the closure period. We would like to thank all of our colleagues for their commitment and the contribution they have made to TG Jones."

The company said the store is expected to close on January 9, 2027, following a closing-down sale.

The news has prompted concern from residents.

Sue Grant said: "They need to have one in the town centre. Not everyone drives and can get to post offices out of town."

Arlette Fright said: "Every time I go into town and use the post office the queue is usually halfway down the store and only one member of staff working.

"How can they think about closing an obviously much needed service?

"We have already lost a lot of proper post offices, not the ones on counters in local shops, that can provide much needed services, so please don't close the main post office in Bracknell."

The announcement comes weeks after the Post Office branch at Morrisons Daily in Crown Wood closed on August 9, further reducing the number of branches in the town.
