New Halal Restaurant Opens in Reading!

Shah's Halal Food, an American halal spot serving gyros, burgers and more, has opened in Reading town centre.

It launched on Wednesday 16 September in an external unit of Broad Street Mall facing Oxford Road.

The opening saw a giveaway of platters and a balloon arch stayed up for the first weekend.

A post on Facebook and Instagram states: "A huge thank you to everyone who came out and supported us at our Reading grand opening. Your love and support made the day truly special!"

"This is just the beginning!"

The chain's website says it was "born in the streets of Queens, New York" in 2005 and spread across New York State and cities in the Northeast United States before coming to Colindale, London in 2020, with a total of 96 branches opening throughout the country.

Ahead of opening, the company won permission from Reading Borough Council to serve food and soft drinks until 2am each day after a 28-day statutory consultation that ended with no objections on Wednesday 9 September.

Food is available via Just Eat, Deliveroo and Uber Eats. The unit was previously occupied by Mr Chips, which permanently closed after a fire in August 2023.
