Morrisons Daily in Crown Wood - the shop that houses the local post office - is set to close, sparking concern for neighbours, especially elderly residents who rely on it.
The store, previously a McColl’s and converted to Morrisons Daily in 2024, is one of several across the country slated to shut. That would mean the post office would have to go too.
Councillor Colin Dudley (Conservative, Forest Park) said: "I think it will close on Sunday, August 9. I’ve been away for a month and found out when I came back."
He added: "Older people find it difficult to find the nearest post office, which would be Birch Hill, which would be quite a way for them."
The borough councillors for Harmans Water & Crown Wood say they are pushing for a solution. Councillor Peter Frewer (Labour, Harmans Water & Crown Wood) said: "I did go to the store the other day, I know the Post Office is looking into replacing it but I don’t think anything has been agreed yet."
He added: "If the Spar does expand and if we can take the post office there, that would be great, but everything is up in the air at the moment."
On acting for residents, he said: "As councillors, we will do everything we can, obviously, because they are important to the community."
It is not clear whether a planning application for Spar to expand has been submitted. Cllr Dudley used to represent Crown Wood on Bracknell Forest Council and lost his seat in 2023.
