Crowthorne train station is set for a £500,000 restoration after a sustained campaign by councillor Peter Wood, supported by councillor Tina McKenzie-Boyle and Crowthorne Village Action Group.
The station serves hundreds of thousands of passengers each year and sits on Great Western Railway's North Downs Line, with trains between Reading and Guildford.
It was founded as Wellington College for Crowthorne station in 1859 and was renamed Crowthorne in 1928.
The station building was built in 1861 with funding from Wellington College and originally had upstairs accommodation for a Station Master and family. It was reroofed after the booking office closed and was converted for commercial letting.
The building has been unoccupied for the last eight years and has deteriorated both inside and out. No details are available yet on the planned works, though it is intended to be leased to two or three businesses.
