Improvements to the outdoor area of The Water Tower pub in Tilehurst have been approved (PL/26/0257).
The project adds a patio, two covered pergolas, picket fencing and reopens an original doorway to improve access. Parking will fall from 30 to 26 spaces, but planning officer Gary Miles judged it complies with council policy.
In the town centre, permission has been granted for a vacant unit to operate as the Me Kong Cantonese restaurant at St Lawrence House, Abbey Square (PL/25/1279, PL/25/1280 and PL/25/1281).
Me Kong, which opened in January, serves rice and noodle dishes, bakes and teas. The council approved details on odour, noise and bin storage.
At the former Huntley & Palmers site, alterations to the Beta Building - being converted into 44 flats - were approved (PL/26/0445).
Plans include Juliet balconies, replacing ground-floor full-height windows and swapping the revolving front door for a double door; variations were granted on March 28.
In Caversham Heights, plans to replace the Warren Creek house with a four-bed family home hit a snag (PL/26/0352).
Demolition and removal of existing structures were approved, but the construction method statement was not; it must be approved before work can start.
